Meritt Roy Marks was the only child of Hazel and Sam Marks, born February 23, 1919, in a family home along the Allegheny River in Harmarville, Pennsylvania. He passed away at home on November 23, 2003. Meritt moved his family to Pinellas Park, Florida, in 1948 and opened Marks Service Station on 66th Street. Later he was employed by the Pinellas Park Post Office and retired after more than 20 years of service. Meritt was an elder in the Presbyterian Church and was a staunch believer in God, concerned always with love, equality, and justice and never compromising the power of truth.

He loved his large family and often spoke of his wonderful life. Meritt is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elma Monnier; a daughter, Geanne; and three sons, George, Roy, and Paul; eight grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren

Meritt had many interests: Hudson automobiles, NASCAR, carousels, planes, and travel. He was a lifetime member of the Lincoln Highway Association. Meritt founded the Hudson Essex Terraplane Club in 1959 and maintained his values in leadership and influence of that club. He often mentioned how he loved the people of the Hudson Club and called them his greater family.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, December 6, 2003, in the Good Samaritan Church, 6085 Park Blvd., Pinellas Park FL. at 2:00 P.M.

Our family thanks the HET family for the cards and messages sent to him in the hospital. He looked forward to my arrival each day with a handful of cards. He would tell me what car each person owned, or where they lived, or how we met them. You brightened his day and gave him strength through the last three months.

Sincerely,
Elma
